Although Motive Television PLC has existed since 2004, it has only been in the digital television technology business for just under five years.
Motive Television PLC was founded in 2004 through the reverse takeover of Setanta Television Ltd, an Irish television production company since renamed Motive Television Ltd (Ireland). The original strategy was to act as a “buy and build” consolidator of UK television production businesses. Several companies were acquired and were beginning to grow when the recession of 2008 hit the industry.
Unfortunately all of the companies that had been acquired were selling programmes exclusively to commercial television channels (ITV and Channel 4) and the effect of the dramatic downturn in advertising revenue had a severe knock on effect to the top line performance of these companies. Accordingly, in 2009 the board decided to exit the television production business and the companies were successfully sold or closed.
The cash arising from these transactions was re-deployed in the reverse takeover, in October 2010, of a Spanish audiovisual company, Adecq S.L., since renamed Motive Television S.L. Adecq had developed a patented Television Anytime solution that was being implemented at Mediaset in Italy. Also in 2010 the Company acquired the assets and management of Dunfermline-based NXVision with expertise in Television Anywhere place-changing software.
In the five years since then the acquisitions, Motive invested in the integration of the two technologies to create Motive’s patented Television Anytime Anywhere platform. Subsequently, the platform has been further updated and superseded by our engineering team to create Content Express™, Motive’s signature product
In 2013, the Company entered the mobile space beginning with investments in the development of TabletTV™ for the United States and United Kingdom, and most recently BYOD TV™ for the maritime market. These new products join Content Express™ as Motive’s key product families and the Company is today working on the continued growth of its Content Express™ business while capturing the very large potential global market for TabletTV™ and BYOD TV™.
