Perfect Together: TabletTV UK and YouView
I don’t usually insert my personal experiences into the public domain, but here’s something that happened last weekend.
Being one of the first owners of the TabletTV UK Mains Tuner, on Saturday I hooked it up in my flat. Rather than use the enclosed antenna, I noticed that my YouView box had an “Antenna Out” port and connected the TTVUK Mains Tuner directly to it, plugged it in, and turned it on.
Voila! I now had TV Everywhere, at least for all Freeview channels, and was able to watch XFactor Saturday night before going to sleep and BBC news upon waking from my bedroom, along with more than 120 TV and Radio Channels in perfect clarity and great reception.
Everyone who has YouView has an Antenna Out port that they are probably not using since the hookup to your TV is usually an HDMI cable nowadays. If you connect a TTVUK Mains Tuner to this port you will provide the perfect add-on to YouView—the ability to watch all the public service and terrestrial broadcast channels on your tablet anywhere in your home.
Technically, this is probably obvious to my engineering friends, but for myself as a viewer, it’s terrific and to my knowledge this is a great way to extend the value of YouView or any hybrid TV setup and turn it into a TV Everywhere service by using TabletTV UK. This capability works as well with any Freeview device that has an “Antenna Out” port.
New features coming in the next months will make TabletTV UK an even more exciting proposition, but for now, anyone who has YouView should really consider it as a perfect combination.
